Wherefour

What it does

Wherefour connects food and beverage manufacturing inventory, production and lot traceability. A team can track ingredients and finished stock by lot, plan material needs, record work orders and follow a batch through to its outputs. Buyers should test their recipes, units, lot records and accounting flow in a demo, because a valid trace depends on how each movement is recorded.

Who it is for

It is aimed at manufacturers managing batches, expiration dates, multiple locations or compliance records, especially in food and beverage. A simpler stock counter may be sufficient for a company that does not produce or trace lots; a regulated producer should compare the exact records against its own requirements.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Inventory records show on-hand quantity, status, cost and lot history by location. The vendor describes FIFO, FEFO and LIFO stock selection, with FEFO prioritizing expiration. Configure the physical locations, held stock and picking policy carefully so the software's available count means what the warehouse expects.

Reorder points and low-stock alerts help flag when materials may need purchasing. Wherefour also describes cost tracking by stock lot and barcode labels in GS1-128, Code 128 and Code 93 formats. Pilot one received lot, count correction and label scan before making the records operational.

Work orders are built around formulas or recipes. The production page describes material pulls, labor, overhead and yield records feeding batch cost. Compare a sample run's planned and actual ingredient use, waste and output quantity before trusting unit cost or stock balances.

MRP combines open sales orders, current inventory, pending purchase orders and production lead times into a material plan. It can generate purchase orders for preferred suppliers, while purchasing records vendor pricing. The buyer should review every proposed quantity, supplier and delivery date before placing an order.

Wherefour describes a lot trail from supplier ingredient to finished product, plus an Excel export of lot history, quantities, dates and users. A mock recall should test both forward and backward traces, missing data and access permissions; the product claim alone does not demonstrate compliance for a particular facility.

The QuickBooks Online page describes journal entries for production, received inventory, invoices and cost of goods sold. Finance should test account mapping, posting timing and adjustments with representative transactions before enabling an automatic feed.

Pricing and getting started

Wherefour does not publish a standard price list. It says each plan is configured to the operation and its selected features, so a buyer needs a written quote. Ask the vendor to spell out modules, locations, users, implementation, integrations, support, data migration and any usage limits.

Monthly, quarterly and annual billing are advertised, with possible discounts for longer commitments. The vendor also says there are no long-term contracts. Verify the agreement's renewal, cancellation and implementation terms before comparing it with another ERP quote.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

A practical pilot can receive one ingredient lot, apply an expiration-aware picking rule, create a small recipe work order, then trace its finished lot and export the history. Compare physical counts, quarantine status, actual yield and lot cost at each stage. Keep this in test records until the full chain reconciles.

Before signing, request a demonstration of the exact modules in the quote, including purchasing, barcodes, trace export and accounting integration. Confirm migration effort, billing term, cancellation and who owns setup and validation of compliance-related records.
