Who it is for

An IT team planning for accidental deletion or unwanted changes can use daily backups as a recovery path, then search for a particular earlier item. Before adopting it, rehearse a restore into a safe destination and check what the tenant actually protects.

An organization with shared SharePoint libraries and OneDrive files should inventory its sites and users before rollout. Use representative document, folder and site restores to confirm the required content and permissions are recovered.

A team with sensitive Teams history should ask Spanning to demonstrate the exact conversations, files and meeting artifacts it needs. The marketing page describes broad Teams protection; the scope and method deserve a specific test.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Automated backup. Spanning describes daily incremental backups of new or changed content. An admin can supplement that cycle with on-demand backups before a planned change or when an extra recovery point is needed.

Microsoft 365 coverage. The product names Exchange Online mail, calendars and contacts, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business and Teams. Check the exact tenant workloads and item types during a pilot rather than assuming every object in those services is covered identically.

Granular recovery. A user or administrator can search a backup and select an item, several items or a folder. Spanning also describes point-in-time restoration; test how a chosen backup date and destination behave for a representative loss scenario.

Restore permissions. Spanning describes end-user self-service and an administrator path that can restore to the original or another user. Decide who should be allowed to use each route, then verify it in the tenant.

SharePoint recovery. The vendor specifically names site collections, document libraries and list contents. Test one site and a smaller item restore, including the location and permissions of the result.

Pricing and getting started

Spanning asks for an organization-specific quote and says volume, non-profit status and multi-year commitments can affect it. Obtain the exact product, licensed-user count, storage terms, data region, support, billing period and renewal wording in writing.

The general getting-started page advertises a 14-day trial and says admin status is required to install. Verify that the offer applies to the intended Microsoft 365 tenant and includes the workloads and restore scenarios being evaluated.

The main product page markets unrestricted backup retention, while another current vendor page offers one-year retention licensing for Microsoft 365. Treat retention as a plan-specific term: confirm what happens to old points and former users under the actual quote.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Run a small recovery drill before depending on the backup. Confirm daily job status, one on-demand point, a searched item, and both same-user and authorized cross-user restore as relevant. The research did not connect a tenant or perform a real backup or restore.

Request a workload-by-workload coverage matrix, especially for Teams conversations versus files and for SharePoint site content. The public pages use broad coverage language; a sample restore is the practical way to check the buyer’s exact data.

Check retention and licensing at the same time. A one-year retention offer exists beside unrestricted-retention marketing, and user changes can matter to what remains recoverable. Do not assume the longest advertised retention applies to every agreement.
