Who it is for
A small organization with its own hosting can keep a subscriber list and newsletter workflow under its control. Import a sample CSV, assign tags, make a draft campaign and inspect the final message before inviting the full list.
An agency or team with several publications can use separate workspaces for different lists and campaigns. Check who can access each workspace and test a cross-project export before assuming operational isolation is complete.
A Laravel development team can install SendPortal inside an existing application. This path involves required routes and a workspace resolver, so it merits an integration review beyond simply adding a package.
A team that needs a fully managed sending service should first account for SendPortal hosting, a separate provider, domain setup and ongoing queue supervision. Those steps shape the total effort more than the open-source label alone.
The work it supports
Core capabilities
Subscriber records hold address, name, subscription status and tags within a workspace. You can add records manually, by CSV or through the API, and export them from the interface. Test how a sample import updates an existing address.
Tags group subscribers by the messages they should receive. A campaign may target the full list or subscribers with selected tags, so verify the audience count with a test segment before dispatch.
Templates provide reusable HTML around the changing campaign content. Their placeholders include an unsubscribe URL; inspect the rendered email in more than one client and verify the opt-out link.
Campaign setup records the subject, sender, content and chosen template, then saves a draft. The preview and test-send path support a deliberate approval step before any real audience is selected.
The sender can dispatch immediately or choose a later date. Queue Draft creates one reviewable message per subscriber; automatic sending is a separate option. These choices deserve a small controlled test before a large campaign.
SendPortal can report opens and clicks when provider webhooks are correctly configured. Compare a controlled delivery with provider logs before relying on campaign tracking.
Workspaces keep separate project lists and campaigns inside one installation. Confirm account permissions and naming conventions when multiple teams share the server.
The software integrates with a configured email provider for message delivery. The v4 documentation lists SES, Postmark, Sendgrid, Mailgun, Mailjet, Postal and SMTP; check the selected provider setup and verified sender domain.
The hosting team must run scheduled tasks and process queued messages. Monitor queue workers and failed jobs so a scheduled send is not silently delayed.

Pricing and getting started
SendPortal is presented as open-source software for self-hosting. Budget the server, database and maintenance separately, and ask who will own backups and upgrades.
Current v4 standalone documentation calls for PHP 8.3 or newer, MySQL or PostgreSQL, Composer and a web server. If your team uses the Laravel package route, review its own Laravel-version and route requirements before estimating implementation work.
Email dispatch requires a separately configured provider. Check that provider’s current price, volume limits, sender verification and webhook terms directly; SendPortal’s open-source status does not settle those service costs.

Before you choose
Before importing a live mailing list, test a small CSV with subscribed and unsubscribed records, then export the sample and click its opt-out link. Confirm the resulting status and who can recover the data.
Before a real send, create a campaign for nonproduction test addresses, preview the rendered message, use the intended draft or automatic behavior and check scheduled delivery with the queue worker running.
Choose a provider and verify its sender-domain setup and webhook path. Compare a controlled send with SendPortal message status, opens and clicks, allowing for provider-side limitations.
