Remember The Milk

What it does

Remember The Milk is a personal to-do app from Remember The Milk Inc. It captures tasks, reminds you about them and keeps lists in sync across devices. Lists can be shared, while Smart Lists provide a changing view of tasks that match saved criteria.

The free Basic account covers core task use; Pro adds extras such as subtasks, more sharing, advanced sorting and attachments. The site also advertises a beta AI connection. The current Terms say the service is for personal use only, which matters if considering it for an organization.

Find your fit

Who it is for

An individual balancing errands, family commitments or personal projects can capture tasks, set reminders and review the same lists on web, desktop and mobile. Smart Lists can surface work by due date, priority, tag or other criteria without moving the original tasks.

Two people can share a list within the Basic comparison limit; Pro is the listed route for unlimited list sharing and advanced permissions. Check who should see or edit a test list before relying on shared tasks. The personal-use term calls for a separate review before organizational rollout.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Capture a to-do, set a reminder and see the list across devices. Use a few harmless tasks to check whether your preferred reminder channels and mobile behavior fit daily use.

Create a Smart List from criteria such as upcoming due dates, high priority, tags or shared status. It updates as task details change. The task still resides in a regular list, so a newly added task can disappear from a Smart List when it fails the saved criteria.

Share lists and assign individual tasks to others. Basic and Pro have different sharing limits; inspect a sample list’s recipients and permissions before adding personal details.

Use Pro subtasks to break a large to-do into smaller steps, advanced sorting to change how work is grouped and Dropbox or Google Drive attachments for related files. Connected storage retains its own account and privacy terms.

Export task data from the web or desktop account settings as JSON for a fuller archive or migration. The iCalendar option is narrower and may present tasks as events. Test a receiving app with a small sample before assuming lists, recurrence or notes map cleanly.

The beta MCP connection can give a compatible AI assistant permission to read and manage tasks. Treat that as optional: check membership eligibility, the assistant’s access scope and privacy handling before connecting a personal list.

Pricing and getting started

Remember The Milk says free accounts remain available. Its comparison calls the free tier Basic: web, desktop and mobile access are listed, while list sharing is capped at two others and completed-task archive at seven days.

The current Pro page quotes US$49.99 per year and lists subtasks, advanced sorting, attachments, unlimited sharing and a longer completed-task archive. Taxes and app-store totals can differ; check the actual purchase screen before subscribing.

The vendor says website Pro subscriptions normally renew automatically, with an email about ten days beforehand. Disabling renewal leaves Pro active through the current period and then downgrades to Free. Legacy purchases, gifts and in-app subscriptions may follow different renewal steps.

There is no general Pro trial in current Help. A fifteen-day MilkSync for Outlook trial applies only to that feature. The beta AI connection is marked for members; verify its precise eligibility before treating it as a reason to subscribe.

The current Terms restrict the service to personal use. A group considering organizational deployment should review that scope with the vendor before putting company work or controlled records into shared lists.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Try a small set of tasks, reminders and Smart List criteria. Add a task from within a Smart List and confirm where it lands, because it can disappear from the view when the criteria do not match.

Before upgrading, compare your sharing, archive, subtask, sorting and attachment needs with Basic and Pro, then confirm the US-dollar annual charge and renewal setting. A MilkSync feature trial is not a full Pro trial.

Export a JSON copy before a migration, test it in the destination, and decide whether optional AI access is appropriate for the task data. The service’s personal-use Terms should also be considered for any work context.
