Who it is for
A small team that wants a direct board-and-card workflow can start with Community for lists, comments, files and real-time updates. A technical owner must operate the self-hosted installation and check the Fair Use License for the intended use.
An organization inviting external collaborators or requiring OIDC login, extra planning views, export and mobile use should assess Pro. Its role and guest permissions need a sample access check before real client work is put on a board.
The work it supports
Core capabilities
Core boards. Arrange cards in lists on a Kanban board, discuss work in comments, attach files and see updates in real time. Card members, dates, checklists and custom fields are included in the Community comparison.
Project access and import. Community includes private projects and board import; the current FAQ specifically identifies Trello as the supported import source. Pilot a small board before assuming every Trello field will transfer.
Pro roles. Worker and Guest roles, including restricted board/card visibility for guests, are Pro/Enterprise capabilities. Guests cannot edit cards, though comments and the content they can see depend on configuration.
Pro planning and identity. OIDC sign-on, calendar, map and timeline views, recurring cards and templates are in the Pro/Enterprise column of the edition comparison. Scope these separately from the Community Kanban core.
Pro search, export and phone use. Advanced global search and PDF/HTML board exports are listed for Pro/Enterprise, as is full phone and tablet support. Community retains basic card search and board import but does not have those Pro entitlements in the current comparison.

Pricing and getting started
Community is free to self-host under a Fair Use License with source code visible on GitHub. The vendor explicitly permits company use without a Community license invoice; running the server still requires an operator. Read the actual license before reusing or distributing source.
Pro is a subscription offered self-hosted or hosted. In the current annual-billing page example, self-hosted Pro displays €36 per month with €432 billed upfront and minimum one user; hosted Pro displays €42.50 per month with €510 upfront and minimum five users. These selected-page examples can change with seat and billing choices, and prices exclude VAT.
An active account with write access counts as a paid user; guests follow separate quotas. Hosted Pro includes a shared storage pool, while the provider handles infrastructure, updates and backups. Confirm the selected seat, guest and storage totals at checkout.
The vendor advertises a 30-day Pro trial. Monthly or yearly billing is available, and cancellation takes effect at the next renewal. Enterprise is quote-led for the larger hosted and self-hosted thresholds shown on the public pricing page.
Look a little closer
Before you choose
Create a sample project with a few lists, cards, comments and attachments. Check who can see the board and whether Community's built-in card detail is enough before planning around Pro-only views or roles.
If external people need access, test a Pro guest account on a sample board. Guest card visibility and comments depend on configuration, and guests do not have ordinary card editing rights.
Before migration, import a small Trello board and inspect cards, files and permissions. For a future exit, confirm whether PDF/HTML Pro export meets the actual data need; Community's current comparison does not list those exports.
Compare the full operating model: Community on your server, Pro on your server with your own updates, or hosted Pro with managed backups. Verify active paid users, guest quota, shared storage and VAT-inclusive checkout total rather than relying on the displayed example alone.
