Plain

What it does

Plain is a B2B support system for teams that receive questions in places such as Slack, Teams, Discord, email and in-product chat. It brings those conversations into one queue, then links support work to help content, issue tracking, response rules and optional AI assistance. Its strongest fit is a team that needs customer context across several channels rather than a single shared mailbox.

Who it is for

A support or success team can use Plain to assign and follow up on customer requests that arrive through different channels. A technical B2B team may also value links from a conversation to Linear, Shortcut or Jira, but should test how issue status and support ownership stay aligned.

Buyers should map their actual channels and number of responding teammates before choosing a plan. Plain's product pages describe a broad cross-channel queue, while its pricing table sets different limits for seats, inboxes and other channels.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Bring support requests from Slack, Teams, Discord, chat and email into one queue, then use assignment, priority, labels and tiers to coordinate the response. Pilot one message per channel and verify that the right customer, owner and history are attached before retiring an existing inbox.

Plain can link support threads to issue trackers, and workflows can move work between human and AI steps. Define when a conversation becomes a product issue, who owns the customer reply and what happens when the engineering issue is closed.

First-response and next-response SLAs can produce breach notifications. Plain also describes business-hour rules and escalation paths. Test a high-priority request outside working hours to confirm the selected plan and your rule configuration behave as expected.

The Help Center brings a knowledge base, AI assistance and a customer inbox together. Customers can see and continue requests across channels. Check authentication and article visibility before exposing an organization's conversation history to a broad audience.

Ari is an optional customer-facing AI agent. The vendor describes Shadow Mode for observing its answers against real traffic before it replies. Use that mode to check sources, handoff and error cases; the public pricing table ties AI activity to credits.

Pricing and getting started

The current annual-billing display lists Foundation at $45 per user per month for up to five member seats and Horizon at $99 per user per month with three to ten member seats. Frontier uses custom pricing. Confirm currency, taxes, selected billing term, minimum seats and channel limits in the final quote or checkout.

The pricing page advertises a seven-day trial without a credit card. Foundation includes 1,000 credits a month and Horizon 2,500, with additional credits sold separately; Ari is shown at 100 credits per resolution. Estimate usage with a few representative conversations before treating the seat price as the whole cost.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Start with a small live-like workflow: connect one support email and one collaboration channel, assign a request, link it to an issue, and check the customer-facing inbox. Then test an SLA crossing a business-hours boundary and inspect what staff and customers each see.

For AI use, compare Ari's Shadow Mode suggestions against approved help content before enabling replies. Confirm how credits are counted, what top-ups cost, and who can change an agent's scope. Recheck Plain's pricing page when buying: current live pricing differs from older indexed snippets.
