Find your fit
Who it is for
It suits a US small business that wants daily books, invoices and reports together. Start with one accounting period and a small set of sample transactions to see whether the account structure matches how the business and its bookkeeper work.
A business changing systems can import prior customers, vendors and a trial balance. Agree on a cutover date and compare opening balances with the former system before posting live transactions; mismatched opening data will carry into later reports.
The work it supports
Core capabilities
Bank activity can come from a connected account or a spreadsheet. The imported-transaction screen lets a user review, categorize and post entries to the general ledger. Try a representative bank file and check how each category maps to the chart of accounts before importing a full year.
Payments already entered through invoices, bank transfers or payroll integration can appear again in imported activity. Review and dismiss duplicates rather than posting every line automatically. A Stripe payout deposited in a connected bank account can create the same issue because Patriot may already have recorded the customer payment.
Reconciliation compares the software ledger with an external bank statement; it is a separate task from importing transactions. Match cleared items, investigate outstanding differences, and save the resulting PDF summary. Test one month with a known outstanding item before trusting a whole migration.
Reports include profit and loss, balance sheet and general ledger views. Reproduce a closed period from the old books and compare totals, dates and the accounting basis before using the output for financial decisions.
For receivables, a user can create and send customer invoices after setting up customers, products, tax rates and terms. On the payables side, a vendor bill can be recorded for later payment and assigned to an expense account. Test how both sides appear in reports and outstanding balances.
Accounting Premium can automatically create and email recurring invoices weekly, monthly or annually. The vendor says a missing customer email address means the invoice is created but not emailed. Review the schedule, recipients, amounts and stop condition with a fictional customer before enabling repeat billing.

Pricing and getting started
Patriot offers Accounting Basic and Accounting Premium. Premium is needed to restrict an added user’s accounting-task permissions and to schedule recurring invoices. Confirm the exact current subscription rate and any promotion in checkout for the selected tier.
Patriot Payroll is a separate product that can be integrated into Accounting, so a bookkeeping subscription should not be treated as including payroll or payroll tax filing. Price the selected accounting plan, payroll product and any other service separately.
Optional online invoice payments use a connected Stripe account. Patriot says the integration itself has no fee, while Stripe deducts processing fees. Confirm payment-method eligibility, processor rates, payout timing and the destination account before including a payment link in real invoices.
The vendor says a payment card is required during a free trial and monthly service billing starts after the trial. It bills in arrears: a mid-month cancellation is charged for active days and a final invoice may arrive the following month. Confirm the current trial length, renewal price and cancellation state in the account before committing.
Look a little closer
Before you choose
A useful pilot uses fictional or consented data: import a small trial balance and bank file, categorize transactions, create a sample invoice and vendor bill, reconcile to a sample statement, run reports, and test a secondary user in the intended plan. Verify that importing a Stripe deposit or recorded invoice payment does not duplicate revenue.
