Marketing Hub

What it does

Marketing Hub connects HubSpot contact data with marketing email, audience selection and campaign reporting. HubSpot offers Free tools plus paid Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions; plan rights differ.

A practical path is to collect a lead through a form, group eligible contacts, prepare a regular email and inspect the campaign report. Verify consent, contact status and the selected edition before treating that path as ready to send.

Find your fit

Who it is for

It can suit teams centralizing email campaigns around HubSpot contacts. Before migration, map who maintains contact status, subscription preferences, sender addresses and publish permissions; test those decisions on a small authorized sample.

If the organization already uses HubSpot, check Account & Billing before estimating migration cost. Some older Marketing Hub accounts may not use the current marketing-contact model, and paid account tiers are based on contacts marked for marketing.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Build a regular marketing email from a template, choose contacts or segments, then send or schedule it. The sending user needs publish rights, and the from address must be connected or verified.

Use an active segment when membership should change with contact criteria; use a static segment for a fixed event or one-off group. Review both the inclusion filters and any explicit exclusions before choosing the audience.

The send setup has separate Send to and Don’t send to selections. Its audience review shows contacts who will not receive the email, so compare that count with the planned list before relying on a segment total.

A sent marketing email can have a simple follow-up workflow. General workflow actions that send automated marketing email are a Professional or Enterprise capability, and only eligible marketing contacts receive those messages.

HubSpot describes marketing analytics, reports and dashboards for campaign performance. Set up the measures and tracking that matter to your team, then inspect a sample report before assuming the figures answer an attribution question.

Pricing and getting started

Compare Free tools with Starter, Professional and Enterprise against the actual campaign workflow. Public starting prices can reflect a limited new-customer promotion; request current seat, marketing-contact, send-limit, billing-term, tax and onboarding terms.

On paid accounts with marketing contacts, only contacts marked marketing can receive marketing emails and they count toward the purchased contact tier. Non-marketing contacts do not count toward that tier, but they cannot receive those campaign emails.

Adding even one marketing contact past the tier can trigger an automatic paid upgrade. Changing contacts to non-marketing takes effect at a later monthly update; HubSpot says the higher tier stays billed until renewal. Check the account dates and tier before a large import.

Marketing email send limits are separate from the number of contacts: one campaign to 100 recipients counts as 100 sends. The vendor lists CRM one-to-one messages outside that monthly marketing limit; confirm the current allowance for the selected subscription.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Set an appropriate subscription type and examine each contact’s preference and consent. Unsubscribed contacts are not eligible for that type; behavior for an unspecified status depends on the account’s data privacy settings.

Before a live campaign, check the sender address, publish permission, excluded recipients and the editor’s affected-contact review. Preview the message as a contact and in relevant mail clients; neither preview nor a test send proves delivery to the full audience.

Forms, imports and automated tools can mark newly created contacts as marketing. A configured maximum can keep additional contacts from those sources non-marketing, which also makes them ineligible for campaign email; test the chosen intake defaults before importing a real audience.

Before handing off contacts, sample a record export with the required properties and associations; its default columns follow the current view. Plan a separate path for contact activities, and account for unsubscribed contacts, which appear when all contacts are exported. Reconcile those pieces and suppression status with the receiving system before treating the file as a migration or outreach list.

When using Marketing Hub's double opt-in, test the exact lead-entry path before scheduling marketing follow-up. HubSpot says contacts created through an applicable HubSpot or non-HubSpot form, lead ad or Forms API receive a confirmation link and cannot receive marketing email until they confirm. A workflow email retries for up to one day, then moves on if they remain unconfirmed. Free/Starter double opt-in covers all forms and pages; Professional/Enterprise can limit it to selected ones. Check a fictional contact's confirmation, marketing-contact and subscription status together before using a real audience.

On Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise, recipient-time-zone scheduling sends a marketing email in batches using each contact's manually set Time Zone, then IP Timezone, then the account time zone if neither is available. A contact added to the selected segment after this email is scheduled will not receive it. The mode is unavailable for A/B emails and does not support Send to more. Before scheduling, have a permitted marketer check the recipient and time-zone breakdown, test contacts with missing time zones, and plan a separate follow-up for later segment additions.

On Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise, a contact workflow normally enrolls a record on its first qualifying event. For automatic repeat entry, the workflow needs re-enrollment enabled and eligible triggers selected. A contact already in the workflow cannot re-enter until exit; on re-entry, every action runs again, including automated email actions. In a fictional nurture-flow walkthrough, compare first entry, a repeat event while still enrolled, and a qualifying event after exit. Check marketing-contact and subscription eligibility separately before any customer send. No live contact or email was used here.
