LogicalDOC

What it does

LogicalDOC gives organizations a central place to collect and organize documents, search their contents and metadata, track revisions, and route files through review. Its current offer spans a free Community edition and quote-led commercial editions, so the edition matters as much as the general feature list.

Who it is for

Teams with documents arriving from email, bulk file uploads or a migration can use the intake paths to build a searchable archive. Confirm the exact ingest path and format coverage for the chosen edition before planning a migration.

Departments that revise policies, contracts or technical records can use version history to distinguish the current document from prior revisions and see changes around check-in/check-out.

IT-led organizations comparing deployment models can consider Community or a commercial on-premise edition; the vendor also offers Cloud. The team should decide who will operate the system and what support is required.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Document archiving. LogicalDOC lets users move documents or entire folder trees to an archive that normal users cannot browse or search. An administrator can locate and restore archived content.

Document search. Search through document content or metadata rather than relying only on a folder name. The vendor describes parameter, keyword and full-text routes.

File version history. LogicalDOC tracks new document versions when files change, keeping earlier revisions available alongside the current working copy.

Pricing and getting started

Community Edition is free and open source under LGPL version 3. It includes basic access control, advanced search, a web interface and SOAP/REST APIs according to the vendor, but its feature set is narrower than the commercial editions.

The Community download is provided as-is, without technical support from the LogicalDOC team. An organization using it should plan for its own setup, maintenance and support route.

The current comparison presents Community, Business, Enterprise and Cloud. Business and Enterprise are described as on-premise options; the quote form also lists Cloud. Match deployment and required features to an actual edition proposal.

The official comparison and quote pages direct buyers to request a quote for commercial editions. No dependable public fixed rate was captured, so budget for the vendor proposal and confirm licensing, hosting, support and implementation terms in writing.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Check the edition matrix against the features you actually need, particularly OCR, workflow, sharing and single sign-on. A general feature page does not establish that every edition includes every feature.

The broader feature overview also lists bulk upload, email import, multiple file formats, migration, OCR, permissions, workflow, sharing and single sign-on. Confirm the exact edition and configuration for each of these needs.

Search can include tags, saved queries and filters for language, folder, size, date or document class. Versioning can record check-in/check-out events. Test these details with representative records and the selected edition.

For a self-hosted deployment, assign responsibility for servers, updates, backups and security. The vendor describes on-premise operation as typically managed by the internal IT team.

If Community is the starting point, its lack of vendor technical support and narrower feature set may affect migration and operating effort.

This profile is based on current public vendor pages. No installation, account, document import, permissions, workflow, search result, quote or support interaction was tested.
