Leapsome

What it does

Leapsome combines an employee record with core HR work and optional talent modules. A team can keep role and reporting details current, use them in a review cycle, then connect goals, surveys or learning where those modules are purchased. That shared record is the organizing idea; the exact tools available depend on the selected foundation and modules.

Who it is for

An HR team replacing scattered employee files can begin with profiles, access permissions, absence policies and onboarding. A manager can then use the same current role and reporting history during a review. This is most useful when the organization wants HR administration and development conversations to share one record instead of copying details between tools.

Leapsome also suits a people team running recurring performance cycles rather than a one-time annual form. It can structure reviewer questions, prompt participants, link goals and provide learning follow-up. Buyers who only need one part should price that module with the required HRIS foundation before treating the broader suite as included.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

The employee record can hold personal and job details, compensation and performance history. Role changes and reporting lines then flow into connected review cycles, reducing the need to re-enter who reports to whom. Set role-based permissions before migration so HR, managers and employees see the information appropriate to their work.

Core HR covers location-specific absence policies, balances and approvals. Leapsome also describes payroll-preparation exports. Treat the export as an input to a separate payroll process; check its fields and the destination system before assuming payroll is complete.

Preboarding can present documents and role-specific information before a new hire starts. Onboarding tracks can combine checklists, manager or IT tasks and learning modules, with reminders for assigned owners. A practical pilot is one fictional hire moving from pre-start paperwork through a first-week learning task.

The Reviews module can use different formats, including project, 360-degree and leadership cycles. Templates and question banks define what reviewers answer, while recurring workflow rules and reminders keep a cycle moving. Configure visibility and anonymity before sending requests so participants know what their feedback will expose.

A review can bring prior performance, peer feedback and goal progress into the discussion. The vendor describes AI-generated pre-reads, but says the final assessment and adjustments remain under human review. Test how a reviewer checks supporting context rather than accepting a generated summary as a decision.

Goals can be owned at company, team or individual level with timelines and updates. A goal tree shows dependencies between levels; comments and progress views give managers a place to check whether a personal objective still supports the team plan. Agree on owners and update cadence before reading a quiet dashboard as completed work.

Surveys can be built from templates or custom questions and repeated as pulse, onboarding, project or engagement checks. The module has anonymity and result-visibility settings plus trend and participation reporting. A buyer should test the smallest team size and actual visibility rules before promising confidential feedback.

Learning paths can contain editable articles and quizzes and can connect to a development goal or a review outcome. Admins can monitor enrollment and completion. Use a short sample path to verify who can assign it, what employees see and whether completion is recorded in the expected place.

Workflow tools can assign tasks, send notifications and route approvals during onboarding, reviews or offboarding. Map one actual approval chain before rollout: identify the initiating event, each owner, and where the record waits for a human decision.

Understand the offer

Pricing and getting started

Leapsome prices a required HRIS foundation plus selected Talent Suite modules per employee per month. The Foundation covers employee profiles, absence, documents, payroll prep, meetings and instant feedback but limits custom fields, e-signatures, workflows, analytics, AI and integrations. Pro expands those rights. Count the employees who will be covered, not just the HR administrators who configure the system.

The current EUR-selected public grid lists Performance Reviews, Goals and OKRs, Engagement Surveys and Learning as separate employee-priced modules. Time Tracking is listed separately too, despite appearing in broad HRIS marketing descriptions. Confirm exactly which modules the quote contains and which records are chargeable before comparing Leapsome with a single-purpose product.

The site's calculator is a list-price estimate; the vendor says multi-module and volume discounts go into an exact quote. Request the chosen currency, employee count, module mix, term and renewal conditions in writing. Short-lived Foundation promotions on the page should be evaluated as a dated offer rather than the normal ongoing platform price.

The pricing page advertises a 14-day trial and separately offers a free sandbox after a consultation. Confirm which path applies, what modules are enabled in the evaluation and what happens when it ends. A trial with broader rights than the contracted plan can otherwise make an essential workflow appear included.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Use fictional employee records to rehearse a role change: adjust the reporting line, open a review, and check which history appears for the manager and reviewer. Then test a restricted compensation field against HR, manager and employee permissions. This checks the shared-record value without moving sensitive real staff data during evaluation.

If development is the priority, run a small sample review cycle, connect a team goal, and assign a short learning path from the outcome. Check whether the selected module mix, notifications and visibility settings support that sequence. Keep human review of any AI-generated material, especially where feedback could affect an employee.

For core HR, walk through an absence request and a payroll-preparation export using invented data. Verify policy, approver, field access and destination file before rollout. Put Foundation versus Pro limits and any separate time-tracking rights beside the written quote, because the product pages describe a wider platform than every package provides.
