Find your fit
Who it is for
A small project team can use to-dos to assign ownership and track work from new through in progress to done. Filters help a manager focus on one person, milestone, work type or priority.
Teams with defined deliverables can group to-dos under milestones, give milestones dates and an owner, and place them on the project timeline. The Depends On field links milestones visually; the help article describes task relationships through subtasks.
A technically capable organization can self-host Community Edition and manage its own deployment. The hosted Pro plan suits teams that prefer the vendor-operated subscription; compare plugin access and support before choosing an edition.
The work it supports
Core capabilities
Task management. Create to-dos with an owner and status, and organize them in Kanban, Table or List views.
Project planning. Put dated milestones on a timeline and link a milestone to one it depends on.
Project reporting. Review completed to-dos and milestones, planned against logged hours, and cumulative flow.

Pricing and getting started
Hosted Leantime Pro is listed at $10 per user per month when billed monthly, or $8 per user per month with annual billing. The vendor offers a 14-day trial without a credit card. Confirm currency, taxes and checkout terms for your location.
Community Edition is a free, self-hosted open-source option under AGPLv3, with community support. It requires the buyer to operate the software; it is separate from the hosted trial. Leantime says it no longer offers a continuing free SaaS tier.
The current comparison lists core project tools such as milestones, Kanban, task dependencies, time tracking and Reports in both Open Source and Pro. Advanced strategy, program and AI items are presented under Pro or a Plugin Bundle; check the current plugin and support terms for a self-hosted deployment.
Look a little closer
Before you choose
Start with a real project, add a few to-dos with one accountable owner each, and use status columns to see work moving. A task cannot have multiple assignees; split shared work into subtasks and mention collaborators in comments.
The timeline is milestone-oriented. Leantime documents a Depends On link between milestones, while its task-dependency guide uses subtasks for task relationships. Test your actual scheduling rules if you need a detailed critical-path planner or automatic dependency enforcement.
The Reports page shows a project-progress percentage for to-dos and milestones, a planned-versus-logged-hours summary, and cumulative flow. Log representative time and check whether these measures answer your team’s reporting questions.
The self-hosted path transfers setup, upgrades, backups and operational responsibility to your team. Evaluate the edition and plugins against your own support and security requirements before moving production work.
