Knit People

What it does

Knit People is Canadian payroll software for small businesses. An employer sets up employee and pay information, calculates a pay run, sends direct deposits, and uses Knit for listed tax and payroll records. The product also has employee access and separate plan levels; managed processing belongs to the Concierge option.

Who it is for

For a Canadian team running its own payroll, Knit can gather employee details, pay frequency, income types and deductions in one workflow. Automatic calculations cover wages, commissions, bonuses and taxes, while the administrator remains responsible for reviewing the inputs and pay run.

Employees can use their Knit account to retrieve paystubs and tax or employment records, while administrators can issue paystubs with a run. That may reduce manual document distribution; confirm access and record-retention needs during setup.

Businesses wanting Knit staff to take over payroll processing should assess Concierge separately. Its managed service and tailored quote should not be assumed from the self-run Lite or Complete subscriptions.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Payroll calculations. Knit describes automatic gross-to-net inputs for salary and hourly wages, commissions, bonuses and taxes; review employee data and deductions before approving a run.

Direct deposit. The payroll product sends employees pay through direct deposit to their bank accounts; confirm setup, funding and cutoffs for the first run.

Statutory records and remittances. Knit describes CRA source-deduction filing, year-end T4s and ROE filing. Verify the company-specific tax setup and any filing responsibilities during onboarding.

Repeat runs and employee documents. The public grid advertises unlimited pay runs; AutoRun is described for salaried employees, and employees can retrieve paystubs and records in their own accounts.

Pricing and getting started

The current public Lite grid shows $6 per employee per month plus a $40 base price. Complete shows $8 per employee per month plus a $50 base price. The captured grid did not visibly name a currency, so confirm billing currency, taxes and the final quote before budgeting.

Lite highlights direct deposit, unlimited payrolls, T4s, multiple pay rates, QuickBooks/Xero integration and self-onboarding. Complete adds highlighted payroll approval, WCB/WSIB/EHT remittances and fuller time-off controls. Confirm the exact included functions for the chosen tier rather than reading the product-wide feature page as a plan guarantee.

Concierge is a separate managed payroll and HR tier with a tailored sales quote. Ask who prepares and approves pay runs, who handles exceptions and filings, and what support and migration work the quote actually includes.

Knit advertises a 30-day trial without a credit card and says customers can cancel at any time while retaining access to documents. Confirm eligibility, cancellation effective date and export or retention arrangements for your account.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Before the first run, gather accurate employee details, direct-deposit information, pay rates, deductions and the payroll schedule. Check prior-period balances and the first funding date with Knit; public pages do not establish how a specific employer migration will be handled.

Check the province and employment circumstances behind WCB, WSIB or EHT obligations. Those remittances are highlighted in Complete, while the broader payroll page discusses them at product level; choose and price the tier for the actual filing scope.

This profile uses current public Knit pages. No account, employee portal session, pay run, bank transfer, remittance, ROE filing, trial signup or managed-service contract was tested.
