Find your fit
Who it is for
A small organization or publisher can use Keila to collect subscribers, write recurring newsletters and target them by contact data. The visual editor offers a straightforward composition path; Markdown and plain text are alternatives for teams that prefer them.
The Cloud route suits a team that wants Keila to run the service and can choose managed sending or its own email server. Self-hosting suits a team prepared to operate the app, PostgreSQL and a delivery service; the latter choice requires a real technical owner.
The work it supports
Core capabilities
Existing contacts can be imported from CSV. Keila lets an importer decide whether a duplicate email address updates an existing record or leaves it unchanged. Additional JSON contact data can support more precise targeting, so a small sample import is a sensible first check.
Signup forms can be published as standalone landing pages or embedded on an existing website. Fields can be required or customized with text, dropdown, tag and checkbox inputs. Captcha and double opt-in options help a team manage genuine signups; check the consent wording before publication.
Segments can select subsets of contacts using saved metadata or custom data. A visual condition builder handles common cases, while a query editor supports more complex rules. Preview a segment before mailing to ensure it contains the expected recipients.
Campaigns can be composed in a block editor, Markdown or plain text, and Liquid templates can insert contact data and an unsubscribe link. The scheduler can hold a campaign until a selected date and time. Test the rendered message and timing with a controlled internal list.
A Sender must be configured before a campaign can be delivered. Keila lists SMTP, AWS SES, Sendgrid, Mailgun and Postmark, with Send with Keila available on Cloud. Confirm the sending domain, sender service and test-delivery path before mailing a real list.
Open and click tracking can be enabled or disabled. Send with Keila on Cloud handles bounces and complaints automatically; self-hosters can configure automatic handling for SES senders. Compare that operational difference when deciding who will keep the contact list clean.
Understand the offer
Pricing and getting started
Keila Cloud currently starts at €8 per month for 2,000 emails and reaches €256 per month for 250,000 emails on its public XS-to-XXL grid. The plans list unlimited contacts and projects, so monthly send volume is the visible plan limit to size against a realistic campaign schedule.
The hosted pricing FAQ says Keila Cloud has no free plan. Cloud customers can use Send with Keila or bring an external email server; confirm that choice and any outside delivery charges before selecting a tier.
Self-hosted Keila is offered under AGPLv3 and is separate from the Cloud subscription. The vendor's installation guide calls for a container engine and PostgreSQL; self-hosters also need an email delivery route. Paid setup help is available by inquiry, without a fixed public support price.
Look a little closer
Before you choose
Run a harmless end-to-end pilot: import a small consented internal list, make an embedded signup form, build one segment, compose a sample message and inspect the sender configuration. Do not send to customers until consent, unsubscribe and domain settings are checked.
If tracking is unnecessary, test the disabled setting and inspect the resulting analytics. If the team self-hosts, assign ownership for updates, database backups, delivery service and bounce handling. The Cloud route transfers some operations to Keila but still needs a chosen sender and a plan sized to email volume.
