Hudu

What it does

Hudu is an IT documentation system for teams that need the context behind their devices and services in one place. An MSP can document each client environment; an internal IT team can organize its own systems. Asset records, credentials, knowledge articles and process steps are linked so a technician can move from a device to the instructions and access details needed to support it.

Who it is for

It fits MSPs supporting many clients and internal IT groups whose knowledge is scattered across spreadsheets, wikis and individual technicians. The main buying question is whether the team will standardize records and keep them current; the product provides asset layouts and related records, but a useful knowledge base still requires a documentation habit.

Hudu centers on knowledge and context around IT work. Its own overview distinguishes a PSA that manages work and an RMM that manages devices from Hudu’s documentation role. Teams should decide which records stay in each existing system and which integrations or imports they need.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Start by defining asset layouts for the systems the team supports, such as servers, workstations or network devices. Hudu lets administrators choose fields and required information, then use a consistent layout across client environments. Pilot a small set of records before designing many templates.

Create an asset record and link related documentation. During a ticket or incident, a technician can open the asset for its surrounding system context instead of searching several disconnected files. Hudu’s knowledge base supports client-specific articles as well as broader reference material, with links back to systems and assets.

Write procedures and reference articles with rich text, images and links; version history helps track changes. Tie an article to the relevant client or system so a technician can find instructions where the support work happens.

Store a credential near the related asset or process rather than in an unrelated note. Hudu describes permission-controlled visibility and secure sharing; before importing real secrets, check the actual role, group and client boundary using fictional sample credentials.

Use a structured process for repeatable jobs such as onboarding or device setup. A checklist can be attached to a client, asset or knowledge article, run as a separate instance, assigned to a technician and tracked by priority, due date and status.

Share selected documentation through a scoped client portal or a temporary link when a client needs access. Test a client view with harmless sample content to ensure internal notes and unrelated client material do not appear.

Hudu Radar is separate from the core documentation subscription. If purchased and configured, a collector scans a client network and can turn discovered devices into asset records. Check the Hudu version and collector placement before expecting discovery; ordinary core asset documentation should not be treated as an automatic scan.

Pricing and getting started

The current Hudu page displays $30 per active user per month, or $27 per user per month when billed annually. It lists cloud-hosted and self-hosted options at the same per-user price. The page uses a dollar sign without a currency code, so confirm currency, tax, hosting responsibilities and current terms in the quote.

The core feature list includes documentation, asset and password records, knowledge base, processes, relationships and export. The pricing FAQ counts active login accounts as billable users while describing read-only single-client portal users as free. There is a 14-day no-credit-card trial.

Radar network discovery is an optional extra priced by collector rather than simply included with each Hudu user. The current page shows a starting $44 monthly display for five collectors billed annually; compare the collector count and current quote for the intended client networks.

The pricing FAQ says cancellation moves an account to limited access, with export available but editing unavailable after the subscription ends. Before leaving, test an export of representative asset, article and credential metadata and confirm what the team must retain.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Agree on client-space names, asset templates and the minimum fields technicians will maintain. Populate a small pilot environment, then follow the links from one asset to its article, process and permitted credential. This tests whether the structure is usable during an actual support task.

Treat permissions and external sharing as setup work. Use fictional data to test technician roles, client portal scope and a temporary share before importing credentials or giving a real client access.

Budget core users and optional Radar collectors separately. Compare cloud and self-hosted operations, trial the documentation workflow, and verify export coverage before the trial or subscription ends.
