HelpKit

What it does

HelpKit publishes Notion content as a customer help center or documentation site. Teams keep writing articles in Notion while HelpKit presents them as a branded site with search and an optional in-page help widget.

Find your fit

Who it is for

It fits a small support or product team that already maintains explanations in Notion and wants readers to find them in a dedicated help center. It also fits internal documentation when the team can carefully manage who can reach the underlying Notion pages.

HelpKit is most useful when someone will own the article structure and publishing checks. The Notion template and HelpKit sync add a workflow beyond simply sharing a Notion page, so try a representative article and update before moving a whole library.

Core capabilities

Start with HelpKit’s predefined Notion template, place your article collections in its databases, publish the root Notion page to the web and connect its shareable link. HelpKit then builds a separate help center or documentation site from those articles.

Choose a standalone site with your own branding and domain when customers need a searchable destination. HelpKit also supplies a customizable widget for showing the same help articles inside your website, so readers can get an answer without leaving a product page.

Readers can search by typing into the help center. HelpKit weights article titles and descriptions ahead of body text, and its documentation limits full-text searching to Business and Professional plans. Test the likely wording of customer questions on the intended plan.

Changes in Notion need attention to sync state. HelpKit’s guide says to run a full knowledge-base sync after structural changes, title or description edits, published-state changes and other article updates; an individual article resync is available for quicker body changes.

Search updates have a separate detail: a single-article resync refreshes that article’s body text in the index, while changed titles and descriptions need a full sync. After a release, search for both an updated title and a phrase from the article before assuming visitors see the new version.

HelpKit can password-protect the entire help center and documents a Professional-plan route for an organization’s own login backend. The password guide says a single category cannot be separately gated; decide whether different audiences need separate knowledge bases.

HelpKit AI can be activated separately from the base knowledge-base service. It presents Ask AI from search; its guide says a full sync refreshes the AI article index, while a single-page resync does not. Test an answer against the source article after substantial edits.

Understand the offer

Pricing and getting started

The official pricing page offers a seven-day trial without a credit card, then a paid subscription choice. It shows monthly and yearly billing with a stated two-month annual saving. The captured static page does not expose dependable base-plan prices, so confirm the current amount and billing period during signup or by quote.

Plan scope matters more than a headline price: the search guide places full-text search on Business and Professional, and custom backend authentication on Professional. HelpKit AI is a separate add-on. Confirm article, language, seat, knowledge-base and access limits on the exact plan before committing.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Do not treat a HelpKit password screen as a private Notion workspace. HelpKit’s setup publishes the source Notion page to the web, and its own password guide cautions against putting extremely sensitive information behind that arrangement. Review the source-page sharing settings and indexing options before connecting real internal content.

Pilot the entire editorial path with harmless content: create an article in the required template, connect the Notion root, run a full sync, open the hosted site, search for the article and view it through the widget. Then change its title and body to confirm which sync updates each surface.

For gated documentation, test the reader experience with a fictional account or password and check what the source Notion link exposes. If your own authentication system is required, verify Professional-plan scope and the implementation effort before launch.

If you add AI answers, separately confirm the add-on charge and resync its source content after changes. Compare a few sample answers with the underlying help articles, since a stale AI index can differ from newly edited Notion pages.
