Frappe CRM

What it does

Frappe CRM is an open-source sales CRM for collecting leads, recording follow-up, and moving qualified opportunities through a deal pipeline. Its central path is practical: capture an inquiry, assign it, keep the communication and tasks on the record, then convert a promising lead into a deal linked to a contact and organization. A team can run the software on its own server or use Frappe Cloud hosting.

Find your fit

Who it is for

It is aimed at a small or mid-sized sales team that has outgrown a spreadsheet and wants a shared view of prospects, ownership, follow-up work and deal status. Leads can be searched and filtered or viewed as a Kanban board; teams can add status choices to fit their process.

A team with technical capacity can evaluate self-hosting; a team seeking managed hosting can start with a Frappe Cloud site. The vendor itself cautions that organizations needing a highly complex enterprise CRM with deep integrations ready out of the box may find Frappe CRM lightweight.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

A lead can be entered manually, collected through a website form, or bulk imported from a spreadsheet. The lead view keeps its status, owner and activity in one place, including communication, tasks, notes and files. Trial-import a small sample and check ownership and duplicate matches before moving a whole contact list.

Web forms can create leads or deals from a public page. A manager builds the form, supplies defaults for required fields that are hidden, and publishes it. Test the public submission and resulting record with fictional details before placing the form on a live website.

Assignment rules can distribute leads or deals among agents. The documented methods include round robin and least workload. Define the conditions and the eligible team members, then test a few sample records so inquiries land with the intended owner.

When a lead is qualified, a user converts it into a deal and can create or link its contact and organization. The email, call and comment history carries into the deal. This lets the next person see the original conversation while progressing an opportunity.

Deals can link multiple contacts and are grouped under an organization. A converted lead’s contact becomes the primary contact. Deal status displays the pipeline; when forecasting is enabled, a deal can include an expected close date, probability and value. Marking a deal Lost asks for a reason, which can inform later review.

A user can send and receive email from the lead or deal page after configuring an email account; the related thread stays with the CRM record. Notes capture context that does not fit a field. Verify email delivery and access to sensitive notes in the chosen installation.

Tasks attach to a lead or deal with an owner and deadline. The documented reminders arrive in-app and by email as the due date approaches. Test that notifications reach the assigned person before depending on them for time-sensitive follow-up.

Pricing and getting started

Frappe says the open-source CRM can be self-hosted for free. That describes the software licence: the team still provides server capacity and someone to administer the installation. The vendor also offers Frappe Cloud managed hosting and displays a starting price of $5 per month for a site; get a current quote for the intended workload.

The vendor says plans allow unlimited leads, deals, contacts and sales agents without a per-user charge. Shared Frappe Cloud hosting lists daily automated backups, while setup, customization, integrations and functional support may need separately scoped help. Frappe’s Product Warranty addresses bug fixing rather than functional support.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Pilot the complete path with fictional records: publish a sample form, submit an inquiry, check assignment, add a note and task, send a test email, then convert the lead and confirm its history, contact and organization. Check the deal status and Lost Reason with your sales team’s actual process.

For self-hosting, assign ownership of installation, updates, backups and recovery. For Frappe Cloud, confirm the right site tier, backup retention, support scope and any partner services. If the organization needs extensive enterprise integrations on day one, test those requirements explicitly before committing to migration.
