Fathom Pro

What it does

Fathom Pro turns imported accounting data into management reports, KPI analysis, forecasts and consolidated views. A finance team connects or imports a company, checks account groupings and budgets, then builds reports and models future cash flow. The quality of the result depends on clean source periods, mapping and explicit forecast assumptions.

Who it is for

It suits businesses that want deeper financial reporting and accountants or advisors preparing client analysis. A firm can put some companies on Pro and others on the narrower Portfolio plan. Keep the distinction explicit: Portfolio oversight does not include Pro's custom reports, full analysis tools, forecasting or consolidation for that company.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Fathom connects to common accounting sources including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, MYOB and FreeAgent. Excel/CSV and Google Sheets offer an import path for other systems. For a first company, compare several months of profit and loss and balance-sheet totals with the ledger; Pro can bring in up to eight years when the source provides it.

After import, Fathom recommends reviewing the chart of accounts, adding budgets, and selecting metrics and targets. These settings feed analysis, reports and forecasts. Record who owns each mapping and budget version so a changed account does not silently distort a month-on-month report.

Custom KPIs can combine financial and non-financial measures. Pro reports can be assembled from scratch or templates, with text, charts, tables and statements, then reused across companies. Verify formulas, comparative periods, sharing permissions and presentation before sending an advisory report to a client.

The forecasting workflow supports profit and loss, balance-sheet and cash-flow projections from a baseline that can be adjusted for scenarios. Treat the scenario as an assumption set: change one driver at a time, inspect its cash effect and compare the projection with actual results after each accounting refresh.

Related companies can be combined into a group for consolidated analysis, reports and forecasts. Decide the group history before creation: the support guide says earlier periods cannot later be added before the original start date. Validate chart mappings, elimination entries and currency treatment with a qualified finance reviewer.

Pricing and getting started

The commercial unit is a connected company, with price changing by count and selected currency. The live selector displays an example tier in static extraction, so a single scraped monthly amount is not a reliable quote. Portfolios above 50 companies move to an Enterprise quote; displayed prices exclude sales tax.

Fathom Pro and Portfolio companies can coexist but use separate billing plans. Pro is needed for custom reporting, detailed analysis, forecasting and consolidation. The vendor advertises a fully functional 14-day trial without billing details, followed by monthly renewing subscriptions; ask about any optional annual commitment and exact plan allocation before paying.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

For a contained evaluation, import one representative company or spreadsheet, reconcile two completed periods, set one custom KPI, build one management report and create a cash-flow scenario. If group reporting matters, add a second related company and test its account mapping. Keep real financial records out of a trial unless the organisation has approved that use.

Check which companies actually need Pro rather than Portfolio, how many historical periods each source can supply, and the current price for the chosen company count and currency. For multi-entity work, agree on elimination and exchange-rate policies; for forecasting, save the assumption set alongside the report. Confirm permissions and subscriptions before distributing financial data.
