Epos Now

What it does

Epos Now is point-of-sale software for retail, service and hospitality businesses. Its till records sales while its Back Office gives staff a place to review reports and manage products, stock and staff. The offering is configurable, so the software, devices and payment service in a quote matter as much as the headline POS name.

Who it is for

A retailer can use the POS around in-store sales, stock and sales reporting, then investigate ecommerce synchronization if it sells online too. Confirm the chosen connector and its price before treating online and physical inventory as one live system.

Restaurants, bars, takeout businesses and delis can look at hospitality tools such as table plans and a kitchen display workflow. The exact handheld devices, kitchen display and ordering additions should be specified in the quote rather than assumed to come with a software-only license.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

At the counter, the till software records a sale and can take payment through the configured POS setup. In Back Office, a manager can change products, stock and staff and review the resulting business reports. A buyer should map one ordinary sale and one stock correction through those two sides.

Epos Now says card and cash sales feed current reports. Its financial reports can be exported to Excel, CSV or print, which gives an operator a practical way to check figures outside the POS before relying on them for bookkeeping.

The retail product presents real-time inventory updates and ecommerce integration that can sync online sales with the till. Test a sample item sale, return and stock adjustment with the actual ecommerce connector; the marketing page does not establish that every connector is included.

For hospitality, the promoted system includes table plans and time-at-table tracking. A connected kitchen display can receive orders, but it may require its own display or handheld devices. Confirm the floor, kitchen and payment flow for the business’s service style.

The software-only offer says it can run on an existing iPad, Android, PC or Mac. Epos Now also sells its own hardware. Verify device, operating-system, printer, barcode scanner and card-terminal compatibility before choosing a software-only configuration.

The AppStore can extend the POS with accounting, stock, ecommerce and other apps. Treat each proposed connector as a separate capability and verify its supported data flow, cost and region in the chosen package.

Pricing and getting started

The Canadian software product page offers an upfront license or a monthly option and displays a promotional $599 upfront or $55 per month. Those figures are a page display, not a complete business quote. Confirm currency, tax, license term, number of devices, support, and any ongoing fees before comparing it with another POS.

The promoted Complete Solution is a different offer: the retail page names a Countertop 2, Air terminal and receipt printer. Its footnote says the discount requires an upfront cost plus a 12-month payments, care and support subscription starting at “CND $107” per month. Get the exact Canadian dollar amount and written contract rather than applying the bundle terms to software-only pricing.

Epos Now Payments is a separate integrated payment-processing service. Its Canadian page describes one fixed rate for common card brands and a secondary rate for others, but an actual merchant quote must identify all processing, terminal and payout terms. An added AppStore integration may also bring a monthly charge.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Ask for a line-item proposal that identifies software licenses, existing or new hardware, payment processing, support, contract length and optional integrations. The vendor says first-party hardware is not required, so compare a compatible-device setup with the complete hardware bundle on the same term.

Before switching a real till, check a fictional item, sale, report export and inventory change on the proposed devices. A hospitality operator should also demonstrate its table-to-kitchen sequence. This shows where extra hardware or AppStore additions are needed without taking a customer payment.

Treat the Canadian displayed promotion as time- and configuration-sensitive. Compare the written upfront amount with the complete 12-month commitment and the separate card-processing and integration charges.
