Who it is for

A small company without a dedicated HR administrator can use CharlieHR to collect starter information, assign onboarding tasks and keep documents attached to employee profiles. Check who can see sensitive salary and contract records before inviting the full team.

A manager handling leave can let employees request dates, see allowance use and approve requests. Booking on a team member’s behalf follows a different path and is automatically approved, so define who may use that permission.

A team ready to formalize feedback can schedule review cycles and gather self-assessments and manager input. Recruitment workflows or ongoing HR advice require a separate buying decision through Recruit or Grow.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Onboarding. New starters can enter their own information, while checklists allocate preparation tasks to the starter and colleagues. Use a sample hire to confirm which details are requested and which documents need signatures.

Employee records. CharlieHR stores contact details, salary and payroll information, contracts and payslips against a person’s profile. Confirm access rights, retention and export needs with the intended HR owner.

Time off. An employee selects a leave type and dates, sees the impact on their allowance and sends the request to a manager or team lead. Managers and admins can also book on someone else’s behalf; the help page says those bookings are automatically approved.

Performance reviews. Build a recurring cycle, use review templates, collect employee self-assessments and manager feedback, and track completion in the cycle dashboard. Pilot the cadence and visibility with a small group first.

Engagement. The core-feature list includes engagement surveys. Check survey visibility and reporting with a sample setup before making confidentiality promises to staff.

Pricing and getting started

The current UK pricing table uses headcount brackets. For one to four team members, it shows core Charlie at £21 per month before UK VAT; crossing a bracket changes the next invoice. Confirm the live headcount, invoice timing and VAT treatment for your company.

Core Charlie includes records, onboarding, leave, reviews, engagement surveys and perks. Charlie Recruit is a separately charged ATS add-on that requires a Charlie subscription; Charlie Grow adds advisor-led HR support beyond core.

A no-card trial is advertised, but the current homepage says 14 days while the pricing FAQ says seven. Ask CharlieHR to confirm the applicable trial length and add-on access before entering employee data or scheduling a migration.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Start with a mock employee and leave request. Check onboarding assignments, document permissions, manager approval routing and the automatically approved on-behalf booking path before importing real staff records.

Confirm whether the business needs only core HR, an applicant tracking system or advisory help. Recruit and Grow are separately scoped, and UK headcount brackets and VAT affect the total cost.

CharlieHR is positioned for UK small businesses. Verify local leave, payroll data, document retention and privacy requirements for any workforce outside that focus. No account, real employee record, leave request, review, trial or payment was operated for this listing.
