Buddy Punch

What it does

Buddy Punch records hourly employees’ punches, organizes them into timecards and lets a manager approve hours before they move into payroll. Scheduling and Buddy Punch Payroll can extend that workflow, but their inclusion and charges depend on plan and add-on choices.

Who it is for

The vendor emphasizes hourly teams spread across job sites, home visits, shops, plants and routes. A manager handling several locations can use mobile punches and job or location codes to collect hours, then review a timecard instead of assembling paper records.

A company needing published shifts, timecards and payroll in one flow should price each layer separately. Starter is a time-tracking base; scheduling is included from Pro or can be added to Starter, and Buddy Punch Payroll has its own base and per-user fees.

The work it supports

Core capabilities

Employees punch in and out and can view their hours. Buddy Punch compiles events into timesheets and can label hours by job, location or project. Try one worker who changes assignments mid-shift to see whether the codes and totals fit your reporting.

With timecard approvals enabled, employees submit a card for manager or administrator review. A permitted manager can inspect, approve, reject or reset it, with action history on the card. Submission can lock the card before the pay period ends, so teach staff when to submit and test a missed punch correction.

Scheduling lets an administrator create shifts on web or mobile, publish them and notify selected employees by email or push message. Staff can view a published shift and punch into it. Check the notification recipients and a changed shift before using it with a real roster.

Payroll Export reports show pay-period regular, overtime, double-time and paid-time-off hours; a CSV timecard report retains punch detail and totals. The vendor also describes payroll-provider connections. Compare a representative export with the receiving payroll system before treating it as final pay data.

Basic GPS on punches is listed in the base pricing cards. Real-time GPS is a separate mode that shows live locations and routes while staff are punched in; without it, event locations remain available. The help page says GPS data is view-only, so test whether the available review screens meet your actual need.

An administrator may enable photos at punch or job switch, and the image is stored with the timecard for management review. Decide whether this verification is necessary and confirm staff notice, device permission, access and retention before switching it on.

Pricing and getting started

The current pricing page renders Starter at $4.99 per user/month in the lower annual-price display or $5.99 in its other monthly-price display, plus a $19 monthly base fee. Starter lists mobile punches, basic GPS on punches, time off, job tracking, payroll integrations and reporting. Confirm the billing selector, currency, tax and total in a current checkout.

A current Pro help article states $6.99 per user/month on annual billing or $7.99 on monthly billing, with the same $19 monthly base fee. Pro adds offline punches, basic geofencing, QR and kiosk methods, webcam punches and included scheduling. Verify which controls are enabled by default for your account.

The pricing page also displays Advanced at $12.99 or $13.99 per user/month across its two billing states, plus $19 monthly base. It lists advanced reports, SSO, manager permissions, dedicated support and included real-time GPS and scheduling. Ask for a current itemized quote before choosing annual or monthly terms.

Starter can add scheduling at the page’s displayed $1 per user/month. Real-time GPS is included in Advanced or listed at $2 per user/month on Starter and Pro, and its help page says that add-on is charged for all account users. Advanced Reporting is also shown as a $2 per-user add-on below Advanced. Compare total account cost rather than only the headline seat rate.

Buddy Punch Payroll is separately priced at a $49 monthly base fee plus $8 per user/month. Its FAQ describes two-day and three-day processing, with submission timing that may depend on verification. Confirm service availability and payroll deadlines for the business’s location before relying on that path.

The pricing page offers a 14-day trial without a card. Before choosing a billing period, use the trial to check whether the selected plan and add-ons cover the intended workflow.

Look a little closer

Before you choose

Pilot a full pay period with synthetic employee records. Include a missed punch, an assignment change and a submitted timecard, then verify manager correction, approval history and the payroll export against your existing process.

Decide whether punch-only GPS, live route tracking and punch photos are necessary. They collect different location or image data and have different plan costs and access paths; set employee notice and retention rules before enabling them.

If scheduling or built-in payroll is the reason to choose Buddy Punch, verify that the chosen tier and add-ons cover your staff, pay periods, provider/region and deadlines. The base timeclock rate alone does not describe the full cost or operational scope.
