Who it is for
IT teams protecting Microsoft 365 can cover Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams and other listed workloads. Google Workspace teams can cover Gmail, Drive and Shared drives, Contacts, Calendar, Chats, Directory and Classroom. The exact protected set depends on tenant permissions, resource type and policy settings.
Organizations managing several tenants can administer them under one Afi account. Group-based policy assignment may help operators apply protection as Microsoft 365 group members or Google Workspace group and organizational-unit members change.
The work it supports
Core capabilities
Administrators configure a backup SLA policy for protected resources, schedule, exclusions, retention, archiving and encryption keys. For Microsoft 365, policies can be attached to Entra groups; for Google Workspace, to organizational units or Google groups. Check the actual member and resource list after assigning a policy.
Microsoft 365 coverage includes Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Planner, Copilot, Entra ID and Power Platform in Afi’s documentation. A policy can still exclude a workload, and a tenant resource without an enabled underlying service may have nothing for that workload to back up.
Google Workspace coverage includes Gmail, user and Shared drives, Contacts, Calendar, Chats, Directory and Classroom. Onboarding uses the Afi Marketplace app, with a separate API grant described for Chats. Test one representative resource of each required type.
Afi’s search and preview tools help locate an item or version within backups before export or recovery. Browsing older snapshots can surface a file or email that no longer appears in a later backup after deletion from the source.
For supported Microsoft 365 workloads, recovery can bring back metadata and permissions with data, and Exchange exports can use PST. Google Workspace recovery also supports metadata and permissions, with PST export described for Gmail, Contacts and Calendar. Restore a small sample to confirm fidelity for the exact workload.
Administrators can enable end-user self-service recovery, but the documentation says it starts disabled. Decide who may see and restore backup data before enabling it, especially in a shared or multi-tenant administration model.
Retention can be set through snapshot-age, GFS schedule or item-level rules. Item-level cleanup can remove backed-up old email or files even while those items remain in the source tenant, so model the recovery window before activating it.
Understand the offer
Pricing and getting started
The SaaS Backup offer is billed by protected active user, and the vendor says a customer may license only a subset of users. The pricing panel starts at five users and offers a custom quote. Its static page shows values for monthly and yearly selections together, so confirm the current rate and billing period in the actual quote.
Afi says the standard plan does not separately charge for SharePoint and Shared drives, while a deployment protecting mainly those resources requires a custom arrangement. Deleted, archived users do not need their own ongoing license, though retention policy should still be reviewed.
The pricing panel lists automated backups three times daily. Afi describes subscriptions as cancellable with refunds for unused prepaid time and documents a 14-day tenant trial. Confirm the selected schedule, storage and contract terms before purchase.
Look a little closer
Before you choose
Microsoft 365 onboarding requires application consent; Google Workspace needs the Afi Marketplace application and potentially a Chats-specific API grant. Review security permissions and establish a test tenant or limited pilot before broad deployment.
A listed workload is not proof every user or site is covered. Audit protected resource counts, policy exclusions and an actual recovery from a sample of each critical workload. Evaluate whether backup cadence and retention meet the organization’s recovery requirements.
If preserving older mail or files matters, distinguish backup-version and GFS rules from item-level cleanup. The latter can erase old backed-up items even when the source still holds them; test policy changes on a small sample first.
