Find your fit
Who it is for
It fits someone who needs readable notes or internal reference pages and also thinks spatially: researchers can cluster source notes, while teams can keep decisions and task records close to a project map. Page gives later readers a sequence; Edgeless lets contributors spread and connect ideas.
A solo user can start with local desktop documents without paying or asking a team to deploy a server. Cross-device sync and shared editing require choosing a synced Cloud workspace or a self-hosted team server, then checking the correct account and workspace on each device.
The work it supports
Core capabilities
Write a brief in Page with headings and ordinary checklist items, then switch that document to Edgeless to arrange supporting notes and connectors. Shared text remains in the same doc, but free-floating shapes and canvas layout are not a linear Page; keep essential decisions in readable page text.
The block model supports paragraphs, checklists, tables, database views and canvas objects. A database beside a page can organize repeated tasks, sources or ideas without moving that context to a separate app.
Local desktop editing continues offline for material already present. Cloud or server sync is a separate event: loading new remote material and delivering edits to collaborators need a connection. Check the workspace and sync indicator before concluding another device has the latest copy.
Sharing has two layers: workspace membership and document permission. A public anyone-with-link document can be opened by whoever receives the URL; test the link in a signed-out window and inspect linked references before sending it. Some narrower permission controls depend on plan.
Export Markdown or HTML when a recipient needs the text elsewhere. A Markdown file does not preserve the whole spatial canvas and an export is only a point-in-time copy, so test a separate recoverable backup for important work.
Self-hosted deployments can leave AI disabled or configure provider keys. Treat any AI connection as a separate data-flow decision; a self-hosted document server does not by itself establish where an optional model processes content.

Pricing and getting started
The current AFFiNE Cloud Free/Basic grid lists 10 GB of cloud storage, a 10 MB maximum file size, up to three workspace members, seven days of cloud history and three login devices. Local Page and Edgeless editing can begin without AI or a paid plan.
The current Cloud Pro grid shows $6.75 per month when billed annually, with 100 GB storage, a 100 MB file cap, up to ten members and 30 days of cloud history. Check the displayed currency, checkout term and current quotas before importing a large library or inviting a team.
AFFiNE AI appears as a separate add-on, shown at $8.9 per month billed annually. The core Page-to-Edgeless workflow does not require it, so evaluate AI only if its writing or visual assistance is useful to your team.
Self-hosting is a separate server deployment with component-specific license terms that vary by edition and release. The current official pages do not support a blanket promise that every server component can be modified or redistributed for free. Verify the exact release's license and expected operating costs before deployment.
For larger or restricted-network installations, AFFiNE describes custom Enterprise contracts rather than a fixed checkout amount. Its self-host guide places storage, PostgreSQL and restore testing with the deploying organization.
Look a little closer
Before you choose
Pilot a harmless project brief. Write a decision and checklist in Page, switch to Edgeless, add visual references, then return to Page and confirm what carries across. Put essential decisions in the readable text if reviewers will not inspect the canvas.
Before sharing sensitive material, decide whether the workspace is local, AFFiNE Cloud or an organization server. Invite a test reader with the narrowest available permission, inspect an anyone-with-link URL while signed out, and verify that a linked document has the access you intended.
Export a representative page and try recovering the text and canvas separately. Cloud sync, a Markdown export and a server backup serve different purposes; for self-hosting, include PostgreSQL, uploaded blobs and configuration in a tested restore plan.
